President accepts resignations of two SC Judges

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday accepted resignations of Supreme Court Judges Mr. Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Mr. Justice M. Javaid Butter. Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that after the Supreme Court Judgment of July 31, 2009 both Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Justice M. Javaid Butter applied to the President opting to retire from service with immediate effect. He said that the President on Saturday signed the summary sent by the Prime Minister in this regard. He said that Mr. Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Mr. Justice M. Javaid Butter were appointed as judges of the Supreme Court on 10 1 2002 and 31 7 2004, respectively. He said that under Article 206(1) of the Constitution a judge of the Supreme Court or of a High Court may resign from his office by writing under his hand addressed to the President. Both Judges who have been allowed to retire are entitled to pension and other privileges in accordance with the Supreme Court Judges (leave, pension and privileges) Order 1997, he said.
