Clip shows behind-the-scenes of 'First Man' movie, not film crew on Moon

The clip opens with visuals of a spaceship on the Moon's surface

(Reuters) - Footage showing behind-the-scenes during the filming of the 2018 ‘First Man’ movie starring actor Ryan Gosling has been shared with false claims that it shows a film crew on the surface of the Moon.

The clip opens with visuals of a spaceship on the Moon’s surface, with an individual in a space suit standing on a ladder attached to the side of the spacecraft. People can be seen walking alongside the craft without wearing spacesuits. Further footage shows camera operators and film crew capturing the astronaut walking on what appears to be the lunar surface.

Some shared the video on social media with suggestions that it showed proof that the lunar landing was a hoax. Examples of the clip shared online can be seen (here) and (here). “NASA is a joke,” reads text imposed onto one of the clips.

A search for the video, however, revealed that the frames of the video circulating online can be seen in footage of filming of the ‘First Man’ movie uploaded by the theatre company IMAX uploaded in 2018 (from timestamp: 3.10s) (bit.ly/42To7F0), archived (archive.is/jYxtu).

A comparison between a frame of the clip circulating online to a frame of the behind-the-scenes footage of ‘First Man’ uploaded by IMAX can be seen (ibb.co/wpt5YS5), where actor Gosling can be seen clearly via the video uploaded by IMAX.

The film chronicled astronaut Neil Armstrong’s life leading up to the 1969 lunar landing (bit.ly/2yglwe6).

VERDICT
