Through vast social media networks, a wave of inaccuracy is spreading on coronavirus.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – As the authorities struggle to contain spread of COVID-19 after confirmation of 21 cases in Pakistan - a wave of misinformation and rumour on COVID-19 is flooding social media, forcing the government to issue clarifications.

Today, a fake twitter account using the name of Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services with @MinHealthpk handle posted a tweet, claiming that: “At least eight Pakistani Army officers, including three Lieutenant Colonels, two Colonels, two Brigadiers, and one Major General, have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus at the General Army Headquarters.”

Health authorities have confirmed that the account is fake and its posts are untrue.

The account was created in September 2019 and has recently been regularly sharing misinformation about the coronavirus situation in Pakistan.
