ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Noor Alam Khan of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI- F) has said that the party will sit on the opposition benches.

Talking to media on arrival at the Parliament House on Thursday, he said the party knows how to raise voice while sitting on the opposition benches.

Fazl sceptical about term of assembly

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Thursday expressed the apprehension that the newly-formed National Assembly would complete its five-year term.

The Maulana was replying to a journalist when he was going to attend the inaugural session of the assembly.

Nomination papers for National Assembly speaker, deputy speaker roles submitted

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Ayaz Sadiq, the nominee for speaker National Assembly slot by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has submitted his nomination papers for the house position.

Amir Dogar, and Junaid Akbar Khan from Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have also submitted their nomination papers for National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker slots respectively.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Newly-elected Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) on Thursday took oath in the inaugural session amid sloganeering by irate opposition.

Earlier, the MNAs-elect reached the Parliament House to be sworn in amidst an air of anticipation. The inaugural session of the National Assembly began after a delay of more than one hour.

President Alvi should be tried for treason: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-N leader and former federal minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said President Dr Arif Alvi should be tried for treason under Article 6 as he violated the Constitution twice.

Khawaja Asif, while talking to the media at the Parliament House, said that those involved in May 9 should be made accountable. He also highlighted what had happened to Mian Nawaz Sharif and other party workers through NAB and other institutions in past.

The senior PML-N leader further said that the state was attacked on May 9.

ECP appoints five presiding officers for presidential election

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday appointed five presiding officers to conduct election to the office of President of Pakistan, in Islamabad and four provincial capitals.

According to ECP spokesperson, these officers will receive nomination papers from candidates and chair meetings of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) at Parliament House, Islamabad, and the provincial assembly of the respective province during the scheduled polling for the presidential election.

Dr Arif Alvi has convened a National Assembly session on the advice of Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar hours before the lower house of parliament is set to meet for the oath-taking of newly-elected MNAs.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party called on Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam (F) (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Tuesday night, Dunya News reported.

According to sources, the delegation of allied parties requested Maulana Fazlur Rehman for a vote.
