Gazans face crippling price hikes from raging war
GAZA (Reuters) - Most Palestinians shopping for hungry families can only stare at the meagre offerings in Gaza City's street markets, frustrated that soaring prices and shortages of food are pushing essential supplies beyond their reach.
Prices of basic commodities have more than quadrupled since the conflict began, piling pressure on families already traumatised by Israel's military campaign and a humanitarian crisis, with no ceasefire in sight, Gaza residents say.
UN agency suspends Gaza movement after vehicle hit by Israeli military bullets
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United Nations World Food Programme temporarily suspended the movement of its employees across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday (Aug 28), saying at least 10 bullets struck one of its clearly marked vehicles as it approached an Israeli military checkpoint.
WFP said in a statement that a convoy of two armoured vehicles received "multiple clearances by Israeli authorities to approach" the Wadi Gaza bridge checkpoint on Tuesday evening. Bullets hit one of the vehicles, but no one in it was hurt.

US slaps new sanctions on Israeli settlers over West Bank violence
WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States on Wednesday announced new sanctions on West Bank settlers over violence against Palestinians, urging greater accountability efforts by its ally Israel, which responded with anger to the move.
The sanctions were announced on the same day that Israel launched a wide-scale attack on the West Bank that it said killed nine Palestinian fighters, despite warnings by President Joe Biden's administration against expanding the war in Gaza.
Israel army says 'failed' to stop deadly West Bank settler attack
JERUSALEM (AFP) – The Israeli military said on Wednesday it had "failed" in its response to a settler attack in the occupied West Bank earlier this month that Palestinian officials said killed one man.
The August 15 raid on the northern West Bank village of Jit came amid soaring violence in the Palestinian territory during the Gaza war and growing international concern over an uptick in attacks by Jewish settlers.
Deadly Israeli raids in West Bank as Gaza war rages
JENIN (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Israel launched a large-scale operation Wednesday in the occupied West Bank, where the army said it killed Palestinian fighters, as the nearly 11-month-old Gaza war showed no signs of abating.
The military said its forces killed nine militants while the Palestinian Red Crescent reported 10 deaths in the West Bank, where violence has surged during the war sparked by Gaza rulers Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel.
