“My mistake was choosing the wrong words. Such slips can happen in everyday conversation.”
(Web Desk) - Morning show host Nida Yasir has issued a public apology following widespread criticism over her comments about food-delivery riders, saying she is ‘a human, not an angel’.
The TV personality explained, “My mistake was choosing the wrong words. Such slips can happen in everyday conversation.”
She stressed that she never intended to hurt anyone and deeply regretted the offence her remarks caused.
What triggered the controversy?
During a live discussion about home-delivery services, Nida claimed that some riders intentionally avoid carrying change in order to “swindle” extra money from customers.
“The food-delivery riders would never have the change,” she had said. “You can tip them, of course, but for those who lie about not having the change, I make them wait while my driver fetches it,” she added, presenting it as her way of “teaching them a lesson.”
Her comments angered many delivery workers and drew strong online criticism from viewers who accused her of being insensitive toward low-income gig workers struggling to earn a living.
Others argued that her understanding was flawed because delivery apps already ask customers to prepare the exact amount before the rider arrives.
After days of backlash, Nida responded, insisting that her intention was never to target the entire rider community.
She noted that the conversation took place on a live show, where mistakes cannot be edited or clarified immediately.
Nida said she should have clearly stated that she was referring only to “some riders,” not all. “I appear on screen as I am. I have emotions like anyone else. I am a human, not an angel, and sometimes we fail to convey what we feel, and it gets interpreted differently,” she explained.
Addressing the riders directly, she offered a sincere apology.
“I repeat, not every rider is like the ones I referred to. It was just my experience. I never meant to belittle their struggles or hurt them. Please forgive me for my mistake,” she said.
