BOMBAY (Web Desk) - The Bombay High Court has rejected a petition that sought a ban on Pakistani artists to perform in India.
The petition was moved by Faaiz Anwar Qureshi in which he prayed to the court to impose ban on Pakistani artists, including actors, musicians, singers, lyricists, and technicians to perform in India.
The division bench of Justice Sunil B Shukre and Justice Firdosh P Pooniwalla turned down the petition while highlighting the importance of promoting peace and cultural harmony through artistic exchanges.
The ruling talked about the role of art, music, sports, culture and dance in promoting unity.
“A person who is good at heart would welcome in his country any activity which promotes peace, harmony, and tranquility within the country and across the border,” said the ruling.
It added that being a patriot does not necessitate animosity towards individuals from abroad and neighbouring countries.
The ruling also gave reference of Pakistan Cricket Team in India for last month to play the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Many sections in India had demanded restrictions on cultural and artistic exchanges with Pakistan back in 2019.
Leading artists Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were refrained from working in India since then.
