(Web Desk) - Famous Indian actor Rishi Kapoor recently put a foot in his mouth when during the Women s World Cup final he tweeted about wanting to see a repeat of former Indian Cricket captain Saurav Ganguly’s unforgettable shirtless celebration.

Saurav had performed the celebration when India had beaten England in 2002 at Lords. Ironically the Indian women’s cricket team lost to England the World Cup at the same venue on Sunday.

According to Hindustan Times, Rishi’s tweet did not go down well with numerous Twitter users, many of whom replied with insulting and abusive posts.

Some users accused the actor of vulgarity while others wondered whether he was intoxicated when he had tweeted.

Others wondered how such an act could be repeated at a women’s cricket match.

A few users even tried to blame Rishi’s tweet on his  Pakistani heritage , an act which drew retaliatory tweets from other users.

However, a couple of users were more sympathetic and stated that Rishi had been simply trying to make a joke and his intent was not to degrade or insult anyone.

Rishi Kapoor is well known in India primarily due to his work in Bollywood.
