Summary Doctors looked on as kid died in hospital where the administration was unable to locate ventilator

KARACHI: (Dunya News) – A 6-month-old kid died in Civil Hospital where the administration was unable to locate the ventilator. The doctors looked on as the hapless father kept calling for help, reported Dunya News.

When the media took up the matter, Sindh Health Minister Sikandar Mendhro promised to make sure that the ventilator is provided but the kid died after 24 hours as the minister forgot his promise.

Despite the availability of six ventilators in the hospital, the father of the child was told to take him to some private hospital.

The hospital administration claimed that all the six ventilators were being used by other children and that was why they had told the father to take the child to some other hospital.

The unfortunate parents of the child said that they neither needed any action from the government now nor did they expect any.

On the other hand, Mendhro said that there was no fault of the government in the entire case. He claimed that another government hospital nearby had ventilators in excess, adding that he also offered to take the kid there on a government car but the father of the child didn’t agree despite doctors’ pleas.

However, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khurshid Shah expressed grief over the child’s death and said that it was unfortunate that the kid died but a ventilator couldn’t be located. He added that the provincial government must focus more on health.
