Comedian Nazar being remembered today

The 21st death anniversary of Pakistan's first indigenous comedian Nazar is being observed today.

 

LAHORE: Nazar was Pakistan’s first indigenous comedian. He made his debut in Punjabi film Gul-Baloch which was released on 28th February 1944. This film also introduced Indian Playback singer Muhammad Rafi.

 

After partition‚ he acted in Pakistan s first feature film Teri Yaad (1948). Later he acted in Pheray‚ which was Pakistan s first silver jubilee film and became so popular. In film Judai‚ Amin Malik cast him as hero.

 

Nazar s mostly seen pair with Zeenat was quite popular in the early era of Pakistani films. He won 2 Nigar Awards‚ the first in 1960‚ as the best comedian for his role in Humsafar (1960)‚ and the second in 1982 for thirty years of contribution to cinema.

 

His Memorable films include Pheray (1949)‚ Judai (1950)‚ Sassi (1954)‚ Baaghi (1956)‚ Noor-e-Islam (1957)‚ Aakhri Nishan (1958)‚ and Ajab Khan (1961).

 

Nazar died in 1992‚ on January 20.
