Mahnaz was suffering from multiple ailments and was going abroad for treatment.
She sung a number of films as a playback singer.
She was also a respected light classical singer and specialised in ghazals, thumris, khayal.
Born in 1958 she was the daughter of celebrated singer Kajjan Begum.
Her ghazal “ab kay tajdeed e wafa ka nahi imkaan” and film song “mein jis din Bhula doon tera peyar dil se,” are all-time hits.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have condoled her death.
