SRK attends Mahathir Mohamad birthday
SRK was a special guest at the 87th birthday celebrations of former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad.
Shah Rukh Khan was a special guest at the 87th birthday celebrations of former Malaysian prime minister Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 15th December 2012. SRK, who was with his family in London, specially flew for a few hours to Malaysia on a private plane in order to be present at the gala dinner.
SRK is good friends with Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad. At the function, SRK was honoured by the former prime minister and was given a digital Holy Quran as a gift.
SRK tweeted, "Now onward to Malaysia for a few hours...my friend the respected Dr. Mahathir s birthday...then back to shoot. Private plane private thoughts..." and "Got honoured at Dr. Mahathir s function & a beautiful digital Koran. Now to India."
SRK s ties with Malaysia are not only limited to his good friendship with the former prime minister. Two of his movies were also filmed in Malaysia, One 2 Ka 4 and Don. Additionally, in 2008 SRK became the first Indian actor to be conferred with the prestigious Malaysian title of Datuk (equivalent of the British Knighthood) by the governor of Malaysia s southern state of Malacca for promoting tourism through his movies in that region.
