Madonna concert goes ahead in Poland with few dissenters

The Polish leg of Madonna's European tour went ahead smoothly on Saturday night (August 15) with protests largely ignored. Madonna upset many believers in devoutly Roman Catholic Poland by choosing to give her Polish debut concert on August 15, when Christians mark the Virgin Mary's ascension to heaven. Madonna fans turned up in their tens of thousands for the concert which was held on a private airstrip to cater for the 80,000 strong audience.
