Polish villagers ready to greet Madonna

Polish villagers ready to greet Madonna
Updated on

Summary

The small village of Rumin in central Poland has invited the pop diva Madonna to celebrations that it is preparing in her honour. If the super star does find time to visit Rumin in her jam packed world tour schedule she will be presented with the keys to the village and a certificate of honorary citizenship. She will also be treated to a dance performance that the young girls of the village have been rehearsing in the recently harvested fields. The reception planned in Rumin is in stark contrast the reception that the singer can expect from the hard line catholic and nationalist sectors of Polish society who have strongly criticized Madonna for staging her concert on the religious holiday of The Virgin Marys ascension, which annually sees all shops across the country close. Madonna is to play to an 80,000 strong crowd at an airstrip in North Warsaw on Saturday, August 15.
