Summary Hundreds of students of Aligarh Muslim University staged protest against Gujarat state government.

Students from Aligarh Muslim University in Indias northern Uttar Pradesh state protested on Saturday the arrest of whistleblower police officer Sanjiv Bhatt in western Gujarat state.Hundreds of students gathered in the university campus and led out a protest march in support of Bhatt and to protest his arrest by the Gujarat state government.The students shouted slogans against Gujarats Chief Minister Narendra Modi and called for Bhatts immediate release.“We want the Indian government to bring justice to all the pressure and injustice that is being done with Sanjiv Bhatt. Just as Sanjiv Bhatt has come out in support of the oppressed, in the same way we have also come out in his support. We shall win this battle and justice shall prevail. India is a democracy and justice has to be maintained. Humanity has to be preserved at all cost. Oppressors have never succeeded before, nor will they ever succeed,” said Anzar Khan, a protestor.Bhatt was taken into police custody on September 30 for allegedly threatening and forcing police constable K D Panth, once his driver, to sign a false affidavit to support Bhatt’s claim that he was present at a meeting at Modi’s residence on February 27, 2002 during widespread riots in Gujarat.
