KARACHI: Police have identified three suspects who were killed during an encounter in the Machar Colony area of Karachi, officials said.
According to police, the suspects were allegedly robbing a shop when they opened fire at the shopkeeper. The sound of gunfire alerted police personnel deployed nearby for security arrangements related to the 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal procession.
Police said the security personnel immediately reached the scene, where the suspects allegedly opened fire at the police party.
The police returned fire, killing all three suspects at the scene, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Rehman, Umardad and Sadiq.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway, while details regarding the suspects’ previous criminal record and other aspects of the case are being ascertained.
