Crime rate in Lahore on rise amid 2500 faulty cameras of PSCA

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Crime rate in Lahore is on the rise due to 2500 faulty cameras of Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) out of 8000, a recommendation has been prepared to install more cameras.

According to details, the "secret eyes" monitoring Lahore are becoming dysfunctional due to which crime rate in the city is on the rise.

In 2015, the former government set up a Turkish-style Safe City Authority in Lahore. Initially, 8,000 cameras were installed to monitor the city. Even after 6 years, more than 30% of the cameras could not be made functional.

The people said that the incidents of robbery and theft are increasing day by day and the Safe City Authority is busy in issuing traffic challans instead of catching criminal elements with the help of cameras.

For the first time since the establishment of the Safe City Authority, it is being recommended to install cameras in 76 hotspot areas. The installation of cameras will be subjected to the approval in the annual development program.

Chief Operating Officer Punjab Safe City Authority Muhammad Kamran Khan said that we are in touch with the concerned company to fix the cameras.
