India captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh vice-captain Zawad Abrar refrained from greeting each other at the toss
BULWAYO (Dunya News) - Tensions between India and Bangladesh were evident ahead of their Under-19 World Cup Group A clash, as the captains of both teams avoided the customary pre-match handshake during the toss.
India captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh vice-captain Zawad Abrar refrained from greeting each other at the toss of the seventh match of the tournament, played in Bulawayo.
Abrar was standing in for Bangladesh captain Md Azizul Hakim Tamim, who was sidelined due to illness.
The incident came amid strained relations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), following recent developments linked to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and concerns over the hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Despite the off-field tension, India emerged victorious on the field, defeating Bangladesh by 18 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
Batting first on Bangladesh’s invitation, India were bowled out for 238 runs in 49 overs.
