Indian key players pulled out from contest , which led to the cancellation of the match
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, scheduled for Sunday (today) at Edgbaston in Birmingham, has been cancelled.
This follows the withdrawal of key Indian players, including Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, and Irfan Pathan, due to public outrage over Pahalgam attack.
Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, and Irfan Pathan have pulled out of the India-Pakistan WCL match.
Indian fans criticised Indian players like Yuvraj Singh and Shikhar Dhawan for participating in the match. Reports suggested that other players, such as Suresh Raina, also withdrew from the match.
The Pahalgam attack intensified India-Pakistan tensions and deepened the diplomatic rift.
Notably, the WCL, an independent tournament featuring retired cricketers, is not governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), limiting the BCCI's control over player participation.
The India Champions squad, led by Yuvraj Singh, includes stars like Raina and Piyush Chawla, while Pakistan’s team features Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, and Shoaib Malik.
India Champions were scheduled to take on Pakistan Champions today at Edgbaston, Birmingham in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025.
However, the Indian squad was depleted, with several key players, including Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, and Suresh Raina, opting out of the highly anticipated clash, which led to the cancellation of match.
This fixture was set to mark the first cricketing contest between the two nations since the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, making it a politically sensitive clash.
Hence, considering the political tensions between India and Pakistan, these former Indian internationals have chosen to withdraw from the match.
