’Babar being dragged into 'pointless' controversies: Ramiz Raja

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja said on Wednesday that despite the team’s success in the white ball format, skipper Babar Azam was being forced into pointless controversies.

Mr Raja lauded the team after the victory over New Zealand in the first ODI and noted that both Babar and Rizwan were under a lot of pressure. "Anything that puts pressure on the team detracts itself from the playing environment," he added.

At the news conference, Mr Raja said pointed questions were being posed to Babar Azam and he was being forced into pointless controversies.

Ramiz Raja said that in the last two years, the team’s performance was distinguished by the fact that it kept itself out of contention.

Saying that Rizwan’s energy should be channelled in the right direction, Mr Raja claimed that Rizwan was recklessly removed from the vice captaincy. "I believe it was a careless choice that puts more pressure on the team as Babar and Rizwan have a comfort level," he said.
