U19 WC: Afghanistan beat Pakistan by five wickets

Summary Darwish Rasooli was declared Man of the Match for his wonderful batting.

WHANGAREI (Dunya News) – Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the opening match of the Under-19 World Cup on Saturday at Cobham Oval, Whangarei.

Pakistan Under-19s won the toss and opted to bat first. The Green Shirts could manage to score just 188 runs and were all out in 47.4 overs.

Rohail Nazir was the only batsman who played against the Afghanistan bowlers with ease and registered 81 runs off 105 balls. Ali Zaryab Asif remained the second highest run-scorer with 30.

Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai and Qais Ahmad picked up three wickets apiece.

Afghanistan chased down the total with five wickets in hand in the 48th over. Darwish Rasooli played a match winning innings of 76 runs and remained not out. Ikram Ali Khil was the other prominent batsman with 46 runs.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Musa dismissed three players. Darwish Rasooli was declared Man of the Match for his wonderful batting.
