Summary Dhoni signalled for review straight away without asking Indian captain Kohli

LAHORE (Web Desk) – In yesterday s match when India had their historic win against English while chasing an enormous target of 351 runs, MS Dhoni almost forgot that he is not the Indian captain anymore.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni signalled for umpire review straight away when the English captain Eoin Morga edged one to his gloves on the bowling of Hardik Pandya. He didn’t even bother to discuss it with the newly appointed Indian captain Virat Kohli.

READ: Dhoni no longer Indian limited overs captain

For the first time in last ten years or so, Dhoni was playing as a wicket-keeper batsman in the eleven. He has recently resigned from the limited overs’ captaincy and BCCI found Kohli as his replacement who has already been captaining the Test side since Dhoni s retirement from the longer format.

Initially, the umpire said no to the appeal made by bowler and keeper but Dhoni was spot on. Umpire had to overturn his decision after Dhoni reviewed for caught behind. According to the general conduct, only the captain signals for review not all players and Dhoni may have forgotten that he s not the captain anymore.

He may have not scored as many runs as he would have liked but this important referral was enough for one to admit that choices made in his leadership are rarely proven wrong.

India won the match with 11 balls to spare in the end courtesy to fine centuries by Kohli and KM Jadhav.
