(Web Desk) - Oil prices rose 5% after the US military said it intercepted a “surprise” missile attack from Iran.
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 1.13% to $83 per barrel. WTI, the US benchmark, rose 4.11% to $83 per barrel.
“At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on US forces based in the Middle East,” CENTCOM said in a post to social media.
“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. US forces remain vigilant and at a high state of readiness.”
