Summary PTA bans late-night SIM sales nationwide to combat illegal SIM usage, strengthen telecom security, and enhance consumer protection measures.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has imposed a nationwide ban on the sale of SIM cards between 12:00 am and 6:00 am in an effort to curb the issuance of illegal SIMs and strengthen the country’s security framework.

According to the PTA, all mobile phone companies have been directed to suspend SIM card sales during the restricted hours across Pakistan. The authority said the move was taken in response to growing concerns over the misuse of fake and unauthorized SIMs, aiming to improve consumer protection and ensure a transparent telecom system.

The PTA stated that all authorized franchises, retailers, and sales points would be responsible for complying with the new timings. Strict legal and administrative action under telecom laws will be taken against violators.

The authority also advised citizens to purchase SIM cards only from authorized centers during approved business hours and to ensure mandatory biometric verification before SIM activation.

The PTA urged the public to report any violations through the PTA Complaint Management System, PTA CMS app, digital assistant WhatsApp service, or toll-free helpline.

A PTA spokesperson said the measure marks an important step toward protecting consumers, preventing SIM misuse, and promoting a secure and transparent telecommunications environment in the country.
