FIA initiates probe against Lesco for swindling protected consumers

Lesco's high-ups asked to appear with full details about the matter
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Amidst rising complaints by the protective consumers - consuming under 200 units - over massive power bills, the Federal Investigation Agency on Saturday launched an inquiry into overbilling.
The agency’s anti-corruption circle started the inquiry and asked for the Lesco’s high-ups to appear with full details about the matter.
Sources revealed that the protected consumers - - were overbilled which changed their category and a burden of million or rupees fell on them.
It was added that the protected consumers used to receive a power bill of Rs3000; however, due to the overbilling tactics their bill surpassed Rs8000 which proved to be a debilitating outcome for many.
Coming to their defence, the Lesco officials denied the claim mentioning that no consumer was overcharged as, they said, the system was computerized and any consumer could contact in case of any genuine issue.
On the other hand, the FIA said the notices have been issued to Director Customer Services Lesco and Director General IT and they been asked to appear with complete record.
It merits mentioning that, previously, the FIA had also launched the similar inquiries against Lesco.
