Govt is working to bring new refinery policy soon: Hammad Azhar

ISLAMABAD (Dunya news) – Federal Minister of Energy Hammad Azhar said that government is working to bring new refinery policy and substitute the refineries being produced by Francis oil.

In a tweet, the Minister mentioned that during the winter due to shortage of francis oil, country had to import 116 per cent of more oil in comparison to the usual routine. The government had to generate energy by using francis oil because of shortage of water in dams.

It is pertinent to mention here that francis oil plants were not used due to imports of LNG cargos in the months of November and December. Still due to shortage of water in canals, francis oil plants are being used, Hammad said. He mentioned that in upcoming days, the annual consumption of francis oil will reach 13 thousand Metric Tonnes.

Earlier on Friday, Energy Minister Hammad Azhar has said that efforts are being made to improve the supply of gas in the system.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad today, he said the Sui Southern Gas and Sui Northern Gas companies have been directed to better manage the gas supply.

The minister said gas demand increases in the winter, and supply of gas to domestic consumers is preferred in this season.

He said the gas reserves in the country decrease by nine percent every year whereas the demand has been on the rise.

The reaction came after officials and workers of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) association carried out protest outside the head office of SSGC in Karachi against the prolonged gas supply suspension.

The protesters chanted slogans against the government and expressed their determination to continue sit-in till the restoration of gas supply to the pumps.

They said that they are being provided gas on expensive rates in the name of so-called Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG). They further asked to remove managing director (MD) of SSGC.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of National Assembly (NA) also demanded the concerned authorities to sack Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar on immediate basis to overcome the rising crisis of gas scarcity.
