National Logistic Board considers future development plans

(APP) – Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives chaired the 63rd meeting of the National Logistic Board (NLB)  on Wednesday.

Director General National Logistic Cell (NLC) briefed the participants about the operational, administrative and financial matters of the organization with special emphasis on NLC’s future development plans.

The Board approved NLC’s budget and appointment of external auditors. In addition, NLC’s Financial Statements duly audited by the external auditors was adopted by NLB.

The Board also discussed proposals of NLC for undertaking projects in the future.

The minister said that NLC had an important role to play as a major logistics service provider in the country and hoped that it would continue to keep itself abreast with emerging technologies and innovative concepts in its core business.

He said that the Board would meet regularly to provide strategic direction to the organisation.

He further dilated that professionalism, strict financial discipline and adherence to best market practices were vital for achieving sustained growth.

The Minister hoped that NLC would continue to play its due role as a leading logistics organisation of the country.
The Board appreciated vision 2028 of NLC and long term and short term objectives set forth in the vision.

It was decided that NLC would submit its plans and strategy for the next three years in the next meeting.


Expediting work on KCR project


Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar Wednesday directed the Planning Division and Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to immediately initiate work for finalising the implementation mechanism of Karachi Circular Railway project with the Chinese side.

Chairing a meeting to discuss the KCR project, the minister said that the Federal Government was fully committed to support the KCR project for its expeditious implementation in consultation with the Chinese side as the project would provide safe, efficient and reliable public transport for the citizens of Karachi.

The meeting discussed the issues hampering the implementation of KCR project as indicated by the government of Sindh.

The Minister was given a detailed briefing on the project and was informed that the PC-I of KCR project was approved in October 2017, by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) at the total cost of $1,971 million, however no progress could be made in arranging the financing for the project.

Secretaries of Ministries of Planning, Finance, EAD, Communications and senior officials of Planning Commission participated in the meeting.
