LAHORE: Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) chairman, Munir Bana has urged upon the government to keep all 65 items of auto parts in Pakistan s Sensitive List for trade with India.

In a press statement issued here Wednesday, the PAAPAM chairman, stated that ending the negative list would bring harmful effect on the local industry, as it has been at a dangling situation due to prolonged loadshedding, gas outage and energy tariffs hike, he added.

He said that if the restrictions on imports of auto parts were lifted, the local manufacturers would be adversely affected, and would turn the country into states like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which have no auto industry base, mainly due to huge influx of used cars imports from India, he said.

The PAAPAM chairman observed that numerous industrial zones in India offering concessions to promote the industry while in Pakistan due to frequent energy outages, which increase the production costs for the majority of those SMEs who do not have resources to set up captive plants, he pointed out.

He said that PAAPAM wants manufacturing based trade with India, and fully favours collaboration and technical assistance with India s hi-tech auto part manufacturers, which will be in mutual interest of both the countries, he mailtained.
