Summary China's retail sales expanded 14.1 percent year on year to 247.8 billion U.S. dollars in April.

After deducting for inflation, retail sales growth in real terms was 10.7 percent in April and sales were up 1.13 percent month on month, the NBS said in a statement on its website.For the first four months of the year, retail sales rose 14.7 percent to 6.49 trillion yuan.Retail sales increased by 10.9 percent during the first four months, after accounting for inflation, according to the statement.Urban retail sales of consumer goods hit 1.36 trillion yuan in April, up 14 percent from the previous year, while retail sales in rural areas rose 14.5 percent to 204.9 billion yuan.Sales in the catering business rose 13 percent year on year to 168.9 billion yuan last month, while commodity retail sales grew 14.2 percent to 1.39 trillion yuan.
