ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the proposed imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached a decisive stage, leaving no room for further options.

Speaking to media in Islamabad on Saturday, Naqvi said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman could confirm the extent of his efforts to avoid reaching this stage.

“Ask Maulana Fazlur Rehman how hard I tried to prevent this situation,” the interior minister said, referring to his efforts to avert the proposed emergency.

The remarks come as the federal government prepares to seek final approval for imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A federal cabinet meeting has been scheduled for Sunday morning to consider the proposal.

Earlier, a high-level meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari at the President House discussed the provincial situation and decided to move forward with the emergency proposal, according to reports.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several federal ministers attended the meeting, which focused on the province’s security and law-and-order situation.

The federal cabinet’s decision is expected to determine the government’s next steps regarding the proposed measure.
