ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reported recoveries worth Rs2.452 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, taking its total recoveries for the first half of the year to a record Rs5.414 trillion.
The bureau also announced its transition to an artificial intelligence-powered accountability system aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of investigations.
According to NAB, one of the most significant achievements during the quarter was the recovery of more than 1.078 million acres of valuable state land across Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
NAB Sukkur recorded the highest recoveries, reclaiming 853,678 acres of land worth Rs1.01 trillion belonging to the National Highway Authority (NHA), forest and irrigation departments in collaboration with the Sindh Board of Revenue and the provincial forest department.
— National Accountability Bureau (@NABOfficialPK) August 4, 2026In Balochistan, NAB recovered 209,544 acres of land valued at Rs604.64 billion, including areas along the Coastal Highway, the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), and protected forest land within Hingol National Park.
NAB Karachi recovered 11,422 acres of government land worth Rs467.11 billion that had allegedly been illegally allotted or leased to housing societies and private individuals. NAB Lahore reclaimed 1,909 acres of government and PCBL land valued at Rs288.29 billion, while NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi recovered 810 acres of CDA welfare plots worth Rs66.63 billion from various housing societies. NAB Multan also recovered 920 acres of state land valued at Rs2.76 billion.
The bureau further stated that more than 24,365 victims of housing and financial fraud had been compensated through the recovery of misappropriated funds and assets worth Rs42.303 billion.
NAB also announced the implementation of a fully paperless e-office system integrated with artificial intelligence and automated processes. The bureau said machine learning would assist investigators in analysing complex cases more efficiently, while AI-driven investigation modules would minimise human discretion by relying on tamper-resistant, evidence-based analysis of documentary and oral evidence.
To strengthen institutional capacity, NAB said the Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy (PACA) has been fully activated as a Centre of Excellence to provide specialised training for investigators and accountability professionals.
The bureau reiterated its commitment to eliminating corruption through the recovery of looted public funds and state assets, stating that recoveries since March 2023 have reached Rs16.938 trillion under its ongoing anti-corruption campaign.
