Summary Sindh government will introduce a facial recognition-based attendance system in six districts from August 17 to improve monitoring, accountability and staff attendance in public schools.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Sindh government has approved the rollout of a facial recognition-based attendance monitoring system for teachers and non-teaching staff at public schools, with the initiative scheduled to begin in six districts from August 17.
The Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES) was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House.
Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, School Education Secretary Zahid Abbasi, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif and senior officials from the monitoring and evaluation department attended the meeting.
Officials briefed the chief minister that the first phase would cover six districts, with one district selected from each division of Sindh.
Registration of both teaching and non-teaching employees in the selected districts has already been completed, while geotagging of all participating schools has also been carried out.
The system will operate through both online and offline modes, allowing attendance monitoring even in areas where internet connectivity is limited.
Under the new mechanism, teachers and other school employees will record their arrival and departure through facial recognition technology. Attendance data will be automatically stored and maintained digitally.
Officials said the system would provide a reliable record of staff attendance and help authorities monitor punctuality and absenteeism more effectively.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah described FRAMES as more than a digital attendance application, calling it an important governance reform for the education sector.
He said the system would strengthen transparency, accountability, institutional discipline and monitoring across government schools.
The chief minister directed the Education Department to establish a strong support and monitoring mechanism during the initial implementation phase. He also ordered that school administrations be provided with the technical assistance required to operate the system effectively.
Shah further directed officials to assess the performance of the initiative after its initial rollout and gradually expand it to all districts of Sindh.
The chief minister said regular attendance of teachers was essential for improving educational outcomes and ensuring that children receive quality education.
He said the use of digital technology would help strengthen accountability within the education system and enable authorities to make better use of attendance data.
Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the department had completed the technical preparations required for the launch of FRAMES.
He said the initiative would support a more data-driven approach to education management and would become an important component of the province's ongoing education reforms.
Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah also expressed confidence that the system would be expanded across Sindh following successful implementation in the six initial districts.
The introduction of facial recognition attendance marks a broader shift towards technology-based monitoring in the public education sector, with the government seeking to improve staff attendance and administrative oversight through automated digital records.
