ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that there is no proposal to create new provinces on the government's agenda, maintaining that Pakistan’s existing parliamentary system and constitutional framework remain effective.
Speaking to a private television channel, the senior PML-N leader described the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections as free and fair, claiming the party secured public support due to its governance and development record in Punjab.
He said the Pakistan Peoples Party had entered the second phase of the elections with a propaganda campaign, expressing confidence that the PML-N would also perform strongly in the remaining phase and eventually form the government in Azad Kashmir without coalition partners.
Commenting on PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s criticism of the electoral process, Rana said Bilawal was well aware that the elections had been conducted fairly and predicted the PPP would accept the results after the final phase of polling.
Responding to questions about proposals for creating new provinces, Rana Sanaullah said the PML-N had not held any meeting to discuss such a move and that the issue was not under consideration.
He said there was no flaw in Pakistan’s parliamentary democratic system or the 1973 Constitution, arguing that the constitutional framework had kept the federation intact despite political crises, military interventions and periods of instability over the past five decades.
Rana added that the real issue was not the system itself but the failure to implement the Constitution in its true spirit, saying the existing system would continue to deliver if constitutional principles were fully upheld.
