PPP, PML-N poised to form coalition govt in Gilgit-Baltistan

PPP has emerged as the largest single party in Gilgit-Baltistan after securing 10 seats, whereas PML-N won four seats.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League PML-N can form a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan, sources revealed here on Monday.

PPP has emerged as the largest single party in Gilgit-Baltistan after securing 10 seats, whereas PML-N won four seats.

Gilgit-Baltistan elections on Sunday concluded largely peacefully. People took part in the elections enthusiastically.

There are chances that a coalition government of these mainstream parties may take place in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to sources, efforts have been initiated to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan, and a coalition government of the PML-N and the PPP is likely to be formed.

The PPP won the most seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, and it has been proposed to implement the formula agreed upon by both parties at the federal and provincial levels.

On the other hand, in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Chief Minister will be from the PPP while the Governor will be from the PML-N. The distribution of ministries will be based on a 60 and 40 percent formula.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for holding transparent, peaceful, and politically active elections.

In his statement, the Prime Minister said that the Pakistan Peoples Party emerged as the leading political party in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections and deserved congratulations. He also extended felicitations to President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
