Rawalpindi court dismisses PTI founder meeting plea, imposes fine

Rawalpindi court rejects PTI founder meeting plea, fines petitioner, cites existing legal procedure and repeated petitions wasting court time.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi dismissed a petition seeking permission to meet the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, declaring it unnecessary and frivolous.

According to court details, the petitioner was fined Rs10,000, which must be deposited in the District Bar Rawalpindi dispensary for the treatment of poor patients.

The plea was filed by lawyer Faisal Malik in connection with the May 9 GHQ attack case, seeking a meeting at Adiala Jail. However, the court noted that the Islamabad High Court had already defined the procedure for such meetings and a trial court could not issue contradictory orders.

In its verdict, the court observed that the PTI founder is on bail and not in judicial custody, adding that similar petitions had previously been filed and the court’s time was being wasted.
