Pakistan, ADB sign deal to build two sections of Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway

KARACHI (Web Desk) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday said it had signed an agreement with Pakistan’s highway authority to develop two sections of the M6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, aiming to introduce modern tolling and safety systems.

The project is a 120-kilometer, six-lane motorway with three lanes in each direction, connecting Hyderabad to Sukkur in the southern Sindh province, and will serve as the final link completing the Karachi–Peshawar motorway corridor.

ADB said the M6 motorway will bridge a critical gap in Pakistan’s North-South high speed road connectivity, streamline logistics, reduce travel time and strengthen trade flows across the South Asian country.

“ADB will provide advisory support covering project feasibility studies, developing a bankable PPP (public-private partnership) structure facilitating transparent procurement processes to attract private sector expertise, achieving commercial and financial closure,” the bank said on X.

The ADB has long supported Pakistan with financial and technical assistance for infrastructure, energy, and transport projects.

In 2021, the bank approved a $235 million loan to help Pakistan upgrade a national highway in the southern region that is crucial for regional connectivity.
