ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has witnessed a notable improvement in electricity supply following an increase in hydropower generation, the Power Division said on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson, power availability has stabilised across the country since 17 April, largely due to enhanced hydel generation. During peak night hours, up to 5,000 megawatts of electricity has been produced from hydropower sources, significantly easing pressure on the grid.

The statement added that no load management was carried out during peak evening hours on 17, 18 and 19 April. On 20 April, most power distribution companies limited load management to just one hour during peak times, while Gujranwala Electric Power Company and Sukkur Electric Power Company reported up to two hours of load management.

However, the spokesperson noted that power plants generating around 5,500 megawatts on liquefied natural gas (LNG) remain non-operational due to supply constraints. Electricity production from these plants is expected to resume once LNG availability improves.

The Power Division emphasised that load management continues to be implemented based on electricity theft and system losses in specific areas.
