GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) – A gang involved in taking Pakistani citizens to Cambodia and selling them to scam companies has been arrested.
According to FIA Deputy Director Rana Shawaz Ahmed, the group consists of six suspects. Two of the accused, Mazhar and Abbas, were residing in Cambodia.
Rana Shawaz Ahmed stated that four suspects based in Pakistan trapped young people by posting job advertisements on social media for call center work in Cambodia.
The Deputy Director said the accused revealed that innocent youth would contact them after seeing the ads. The gang specifically targeted educated individuals with computer skills.
Rana Shawaz Ahmed added that the suspects collected money from victims under the pretext of arranging visas and then sent them to Cambodia, where Mazhar and Abbas would receive them.
According to the FIA, the victims were then sold to foreign scam operators in Cambodia. Mazhar and Abbas reportedly charged up to $2,000 per person.
Officials further said that Pakistanis were kept as captives and forced to carry out online scamming activities. Those who refused to work were subjected to torture.
Rana Shawaz Ahmed noted that the scams mainly targeted citizens of India and the United States, and the group has taken more than 100 Pakistanis to Cambodia so far.
