ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Human rights activist and lawyer Imaan Mazari, daughter of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari, and her husband Hadi Ali Chatha have been arrested on Friday.

They were on their way from the Islamabad High Court to the District Court when they were stopped near Serena Chowk and arrested. A large number of lawyers were accompanying them at the time.

Imaan and Hadi, who have been involved in a controversial tweets case, had announced that they would not back down from their stance. Speaking to the media, they said they were standing firmly by their position and would not retreat from it, even if it meant going to jail.

Earlier, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court had ordered Imaan and Hadi to appear in person in the case.

It should be recalled that in the controversial tweet case, the Islamabad High Court (IHC), in its written verdict, had declared the trial court’s order of not arresting Imaan and Hadi null and void. The IHC granted four days to cross-examine witnesses. If they fail to appear before the trial court, this order will be considered void.
