Gilgit-Baltistan marks 78th Liberation Day from Dogra Rule

On November 1, 1947, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) revolted against Dogra rule, led by the Gilgit Scouts, and declared itself an independent state, raising the Pakistani flag for the first time.

GILGIT (Dunya News) - The 78th Liberation Day of Gilgit Baltistan is being celebrated today (Saturday). Flag hoisting ceremonies will be held in all districts including Gilgit and Skardu.

The main ceremony will be held at Chinar Bagh Gilgit while a ceremony will also be organised to pay tribute to the martyrs and ghazis of the liberation struggle of the Gilgit Baltistan.

Gilgit Baltistan government has announced public holiday today to mark the day.

On November 1, 1947, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) revolted against Dogra rule, led by the Gilgit Scouts, and declared itself an independent state, raising the Pakistani flag for the first time. This event ended Dogra control over the region and was a key moment in the first Kashmir war, after which Gilgit-Baltistan became a part of Pakistan

In 1948, after a year of struggle, Baltistan was freed from the domination of India.
