RAHIM YAR KHAN (Dunya News) – The Punjab police have used drones in operation against hardcore criminals of Katcha area and destroyed their hideouts, with reports of injuries inflicted to the outlaws, Dunya News reported here on Wednesday.
The police used the drone technology for the first time, and made a big success against the criminals, who had safe havens in the riverine areas, and their presence was a great challenge for the Punjab police.
These outlaws honeytrapped citizens and took them to Katcha areas for ransom, making it difficult for the police to launch operations against them deep in the jungle.
Katcha area robbers were also involved in abducting policemen and using heavy weapons against them during encounters.
According to Rahim Yar Khan DPO Irfan Ali, drones targeted robbers hiding in the area, adding the operation was conducted on intelligence information, with aim of rescuing abductees.
He said with the use of drones, police were tightening noose around the criminals, who are now forced to leave their bunkers.
Punjab IG Dr Usman has said police are not only conducting operations against Katcha area robbers, but also shouldering rescue teams in relief efforts for flood victims in Punjab.
