Punjab CM Maryam says Balochistan 'honour' killings shook the nation

No tradition, custom, or mindset is above the law of the land

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the brutal honour killing of a young woman in Balochistan, calling it an attack on the conscience of humanity.

In a heartfelt post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Maryam said the shocking incident has deeply disturbed every sensitive heart across the country.

“This act of cruelty is unforgivable,” she wrote. “No tradition, custom, or mindset is above the law of the land. Such outdated beliefs must be dealt with iron hands.”

The chief minister demanded that the culprits must be brought to justice without delay. “We urge the authorities to tighten the noose around the killers and ensure they receive the punishment they truly deserve,” she added.

Maryam Nawaz’s statement has drawn praise from human rights activists, who say strong political voices are key to breaking the silence around so-called honour crimes, which continue to haunt parts of the country.
