Murree tragedy: Were deaths caused by cold or carbon monoxide poisoning?

People who are sleeping can die from CO poisoning before ever having symptoms.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Carbon monoxide poisonings can occur by exposures to the gas in idling automobiles with exhaust pipes blocked by snow as it takes just over a minute for CO to climb to a dangerous level, and at the same time the oxygen level dropped.

The most common symptoms of CO poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion; however people who are sleeping can die from CO poisoning before ever having symptoms.

CO Poisoning Prevention Tips

-Never leave the motor running in a vehicle parked in snow or any other enclosed space.

-Keep tailpipe and other vents free of debris.

-Never run a petrol powered engine less than 20 feet from an open window, door, or vent where exhaust can vent into an enclosed area.

-If conditions are too cold, seek shelter somewhere else instead of the car.
