Govt displeased with ECP rebuttal on PM's statement
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Ministers on Friday said that it was inappropriate of the ECP to issue a rebuttal against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement, adding that ECP should have demonstrated its independence and impartiality through actions instead of issuing press releases.
Talking to media in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information Shibli Faraz along with Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Barrister Ali Zafar said that the government had been pushing for transparent elections for the last several months.
They said that transparency in elections will enhance the prestige of the Parliament, and that elections are the foundation of democracy and transparent elections would further strengthen it.
Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his entire party fully respect all the state institutions, including the Election Commission of Pakistan.
He said it is the joint responsibility of the government and the ECP to evolve a mechanism to ensure transparency in the polling process. He said transparency in elections is the pillar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s policy.
The Minister for Science and Technology said 177 members of National Assembly belonging to PTI and allied parties have reached Islamabad and hopefully 179 MNA will repose their trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Shibli Faraz said it is unfortunate that Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz nurtured the politics of money and corruption in Pakistan, which adversely affected morality of the nation. He said recent Senate elections have vindicated our stance that horse-trading is undertaken in the polling process.
