Shahzad Waseem urges PPP, PML-N to fulfill promise of transparent elections in Senate
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Leader of the House in Senate Dr Shahzad Waseem has urged PPP and PML-N to fulfill their promise of transparent elections in the Upper House through open balloting.
Addressing the media along with Special Assistant on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill in Islamabad on Thursday, he said as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan we are taking steps at all levels to make the Senate elections transparent.
Citing the Constitution and relevant rules, Shahzad Waseem said previous recommendations of National Assembly and the Senate reinforce our stance of open balloting in Senate elections.
Dr Shahzad Waseem said that, first time in the history of the country, PTI-led government has initiated a bold step towards transparency in the Senate elections.
He said opposition is resisting open balloting system just because they want horse-trading and to promote politics of money.
Earlier, Shahbaz Gill said Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to end horse trading and use of money in Senate elections.
He also condemned derogatory remarks by PML-N leader Captain Retired Muhammad Safdar against an elected member of the Punjab Assembly from Gujranwala.
