PML-N, PPP reject Justice (r) Azmat's appointment as Broadsheet inquiry committee head

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday has rejected the appointment of Justice (r) Azmat Saeed Sheikh as head of the Broadsheet inquiry committee.

In a statement, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that those who should be made accountable are now being hired as the members of the inquiry committees. This step is a murder of justice, she added.

The PML-N leader further advised Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to tell the people of Pakistan that you want National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Justice (r) Azmat Saeed is a member of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital’s board of governors, she told.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has also raised objections over the formation of inquiry committee to probe Broadsheet scandal. Former chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said that the investigation is only being conducted to divert the attention of the people. The purpose of appointing Justice (r) Azmat Saeed is to put all the blame on the opposition and former leaders, he stated.

The reactions came after the federal government had appointed Justice (r) Azmat Saeed Sheikh as head of the Broadsheet inquiry committee.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed served as Supreme Court judge for seven years and was part of the bench which handled numerous high profile cases including Panama case.

Justice Azmat was sworn in as SC judge on 01 June 2012. He was administered the oath by the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
