ECP postpones by-elections till January 31 due to coronavirus

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed by-elections till January 31, 2021 due to worsening coronavirus situation.

According to details, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner in which members, including Secretary Election Commission, Secretary Local Government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Interior and Secretary Law participated.

The meeting decided to postpone the elections on two vacant National Assembly seats and six Provincial Assembly seats till January 31, 2021.

Participants were also briefed on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local body elections in the meeting. They were informed that zoning has been completed in 27 districts of the province.

It has also been decided to immediately issue a schedule regarding the mayor in Islamabad. The Election Commission has also directed the Law Secretary to look into the issue of official release of Census 2017 data.
