LHC summons Chairman HEC in petition to make Quran integral part of curriculum

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned the Chairman Higher Education Commission and Secretary Religious Affairs on a petition filed to make the teachings of the Holy Quran an integral part of the curriculum in educational institutions.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court heard the petition of Al-Tamish Saeed seeking implementation of the law making the teaching of Holy Quran compulsory in educational institutions.

The two-member bench expressed anger over the non-appearance of the concerned officials in the court.

The court summoned the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the secretary of religious affairs and directed them to appear on Tuesday.

The appeal pointed out that society could be further improved by imparting Qur’anic teachings to Muslim children.
