TikTok ban challenged in Sindh High Court

KARACHI (Dunya News) - A citizen belonging to Karachi has challenged the ban on video platform TikTok in the Sindh High Court.

The petitioner from Karachi, Muneeb Ahmed, has taken the stand that more than 20 million people use the application, while only a few of them are misusing the app. Only those IDs should be blocked, it is not just to shut down the app for everyone, the petition says.

According to sources, the Sindh High Court has accepted the petition and the first hearing is set for October 15.

on Monday, PTA said that in an effort to have meaningful engagement with PTA & in compliance with instructions of the Authority with respect to moderating the unlawful online content in accordance with laws of Pakistan, TikTok held a detailed virtual meeting with Chairman PTA.

During the meeting, TikTok senior representative highlighted the efforts that have been taken besides sharing future strategy to improve content moderation in line with local laws.

Chairman PTA, while acknowledging the efforts of TikTok, asked for tangible timelines for the proposed actions. Both sides resolved to continue their engagement to arrive at a mutually acceptable mechanism to continue to provide a safe internet experience to the users in Pakistan.
