Ex-DG Excise handed over to NAB on 10-day physical remand in liquor license case

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Accountability Court has handed over Punjab’s former Director General Excise and Taxation Akram Ashraf Gondal, arrested in the liquor license case, to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on 10-day physical remand and directed NAB to submit a full investigation report at the next hearing.

Accountability court Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry heard the case. NAB had presented arrested former DG Excise to the court for physical remand.

The NAB prosecutor told the court that the accused had issued a liquor license by misusing his powers and asked the court to grant 15 days physical remand.

The Former DG Excise said in his statement that before this, the excise department has issued 9 more liquor licenses as well. Before issuing licenses, NOCs are taken from various government departments and the summary is sent to the Chief Minister every time.

The court inquired as to what happened to the summary sent to the Chief Minister. The accused said that the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister had sent back the summary, after which the license was issued in accordance with the law.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted 10-day physical remand of the accused. The accountability court also ordered NAB to produce the accused again on September 28.
